Charging Port Repairs: Common Causes + Fix Options

If your device won’t charge, only charges at a certain angle, or keeps disconnecting, the charging port is a common culprit—but it’s not always the part itself. The good news: many “charging port problems” are fixable quickly.

Common symptoms

• Charger feels loose or won’t “click” in
• Charging works only if the cable is held a certain way
• Charging starts/stops repeatedly
• Device charges very slowly
• “Accessory not supported” / “Moisture detected” warnings (sometimes)
• Device won’t connect to a computer for data transfer

The most common cause: pocket lint/debris

A lot of ports fail to charge because lint gets packed into the bottom of the port, preventing the cable from seating fully. It can look clean from the outside but still be blocked.

Fix option: Professional port cleaning + inspection (fast and inexpensive compared to a full repair). $20

Other causes (and fixes)

• Worn or damaged port pins (from heavy use or yanking cables)
  • Fix: charging port replacement (or board-level work on some models)
• Liquid exposure/corrosion
  • Fix: cleaning/diagnostics; results vary depending on corrosion damage

What to bring (helps us diagnose faster)

• Your charging cable and adapter (especially if it’s the one that “sometimes works”)
• Any info on what happened right before it started (drop, water exposure, update, etc.)

How long it takes

Many charging-related fixes can be completed same day. Timing depends on:

• Whether it’s a cleaning vs a replacement
• Your device model
• Part availability
• Any hidden damage found during inspection

Warranty (charging port repairs)

Charging port repairs include a 1-year warranty covering part/manufacturing defects.

Because charging ports are a high-use physical wear item, the warranty does not cover:

• New physical damage (bent pins, broken port from force, impact damage, etc.)
• Liquid damage/corrosion
• Damage caused by improper cables/adapters or excessive force
